ARCHIVE ANCIENT CAMOGLI

017.            The  "ISLAND"

Year: 1875

Photographer: Ferrari's Brothers

NOTES:

In the picture we see on the pier a crowd turned towards a brig with the yards tilted to the bulwarks in order to not entangle them with the masting of the near sail ships: by the large white water line belt and the high hull on the water surface (from which we can desume that the ship has empty holds) and for the candid yards, it seems that the people are observing the arrival of a new ship, destined to carry more wealth to the City.

We regret that we don't know the name of the bark and that of the Shipowner...

The city quarter in the background is still called "Island" because until the XV Century it was just an island with a drawbridge, where there were the Church and the castle as City defence against the barbaresque incursions.

Now the "Island"  is the quarter with the most beautiful apartments, very much desired and the expensivest ones of the whole City.
