ARCHIVE ANCIENT CAMOGLI

038.     The PORT of CAMOGLI

Year: 1950 approximately

Photographer: unknown

NOTES:

The last sail ships in the port of Camogli.

In the foreground an old coal sail cargo ship called Crole.

Behind the bow and the masting of a large schooner with the black painted hull called Neptune, better known as "the bark of Spirito".

Spirito was the name of her watchman, an old sea wolf charged by Authorities to guard the boat, confiscate for cigarettes smuggling.

He did everything to avoid her sink filling the many leaks with concrete, but letting, faking reprimand, the children go aboard to play "at the pirates".

I was one of them.

Mourned, the bark sunk some years later and after a couple of years also the old seaman Spirito died, both fed up of days.
