042.               SEA  STORM

Year:  February 28th, 1954

NOTES:

At the end of the month of February 1954 the barometer unexpecytedly drop off scale.

Just the time for the fishing boats to swiftly re-enter in the port: a hour later a furious sea storm raged on the whole gulf in front of Camogli.

The waves were so high to surpass the Dragon Castle, while all the Island quarter seemed the emerging turret of a submarine.

The seawater pulled by the waves along the Church’s forecourt became a continuous waterfall running down to the marble stairs to Columbus square: the boats there stranded floated and had to be moored also on the square to prevent their dragging away by the flowing water.

Great were the damages in the sea as well as on the mainland.

As a result of this sea storm many defence works were made to reinforce the coast: the same Castle wouldn't resist to a second similar harass.
