ARCHIVE ANCIENT CAMOGLI

050.               The  TURTLE

Year: 1945

Photographer: Alvaro Ciotti

NOTES:

In the 1945 a strange catch happened: in the tuna - fishing nets remained entangled a large marine turtle that, not being able to popping up to breathe, unfortunately died although the fishermen tried to free the turtle quickly cutting the nets with their knives.

In order to avoid in some way an useless death, the fishermen donated the turtle to the Museum of Natural Sciences of Genoa so that this beautiful animal would be at least available to the students and the visitors.

Still today the beautiful exemplar is shown in a large room of the Museum.

Another picture of the tortue is shown at the file N° 175.
