The Captain of the bombard "N.S del Boschetto" saved from an accident

Before the restoration, the painting had a little white and sepia image of the first years of the century applied up to right. Given to the absolute extraneity of this regarding the work offered by Giuseppe Mortola, its removal has been decided while in all the analogous cases, but with images originally applied at the time of the painting execution these have been rigorously maintained for respect of what was intentional by the donors. 

In the case of Gavarrone, and we will see also that by Canetta, the attachment of a sacred image is always comprehensible given to the content relief, that to some it can have seemed insufficient, granted to the divine participation in the total economy of the painting. 

In its Marine Offers, constant common in the works of the "professional" authors of this kind of pictures, becomes decidedly evident that the protagonist is the boat and its fight against the fury of the sea. The men are less important; their presence is sufficiently expressed through the explicative written; the miraculous participation, instead, is emphasized not inside the work, but through the testimony given from its presence in the Sanctuary.
