Caption:

            "V.F.G.A. Prospero Lavarello the 29th 9.ber 1840 Commander of the Brig the Filadelfio, coming from Galatz, at the distance of miles 120 from Cape Spartivento for South-East 14° 5' ".

 

Notes:

The acronym V.F.G.A., often used, means: Voto Fatto Grazia Avuta (Vow Done, Grace Obtained).

The painting is an effective nocturne attributable to the hand of a painter in the  wider sense and not to a "specialized" in naval reproductions. 

For this reason the elements become more harmoniously assembled to create an emotional atmosphere that often in the other cases it risks to turn out frozen, due to the descriptive precision.
