"Miracle granted by the B.V. of Boschetto to the Italian Brick Teresa Olivari Capt.n Gio Batta Mortola from Camogli, the 5th day of October 1888 being near the coast of the Sidney's port, in the way out of the Gulf of Saint Laurent with S.E. wind being in danger of shipwreck, together with the crew invoked the aid of the Blessed Virgin; fifteen minutes later, the wind that had to be the cause of their loss, suddenly changed direction coming from stern; For gratitude the undersigneds give this picture in honor of the B.V. of Camogli. Capt.n Gio Batta Mortola; Boatswain Gio Bono Simonetti, Cook Gio Batta Chiesa". |

portrait of this brig with the sails made of silk in relief, work of
Thomas Williers of Brooklyn (Shipsails of Camogli, Genoa 1984, p.14).
The type of Madonna is the same as painted by Arpe in 1889 in the Ex-Voto of the Ship "Barone Podestà" of the Sanctuary of Montallegro (U. Carta, U. Ricci, F.M. Ruffini, Sacred Rapallo Minor..., Genoa 1980, tav.53). |
